Studio Zukunft

Every PLAY-visitor can create, develop and discuss their own game ideas for a better world at the Studio Zukunft (Studio Future). What does tomorrow’s character require to solve problems such as poverty, racism or illiteracy? Which stories should be told to change things and draw attention to problems? How does a game world look that tells us visionary stories of a better world? Which controls do these games offer, that allow disabled people to participate or do they even rethink game principles?

PLAY-visitors can program, tinker, and design at five stations at the Studio Zukunft.

Excursions

ausfluege

Established institutions of Hamburgs gaming scene open their doors to let you give you an exclusive look into the creative spectrum of professions revolving around video games. This year’s places are InnoGames, Threaks, Tivola, and Rocket Beans TV.

InnoGames is a developer and publisher. Here, visitors can learn about the fascination of browser games and how one idea can become an enterprise. Game Designers will offer unique insights in their work and answer questions about the studio’s action, strategy, online and role playing games.

Threaks is a team of indie developers, currently working on All I Have Is Time. Here, participants can explore the work of game developers and ask designers, programmers, graphic artists about their work.

Rocket Beans TV is an internet channel that has created a unique concept and produces contributions about gaming and other topics. Visitors will be able to experience how the beans work and what happens behind the scenes.

Tivola is a developer of serious games, focusing on family-friendly games and apps.

Meeting point is Friday (November 2nd) at the Festival HQ at 12.30pm. Places for both excursions are limited to 20 persons. You can only register for the excursions at the festival counter. Participants also require a ticket for public transport.

PLAY Exhibition

exhibition

So how can we create a new tomorrow? And to what end? Dive into our exhibition, where every world and every way is possible. Games will allow you to change their rules and levels, together you can rebuild a whole house, or try to be better at city building and gentrification, creating effective machines (and job-less people) or managing security and surveillance, migration and borders.

Maybe you don’t want to build something from scratch? Little adaptions are too small? Do a revolution! With playful installations, virtual realities, mobile games and big screens, we invite you to rethink, rebuild, decorate, manage, invent, oversee, revolt and wonder!

In the same space you can find and play the nominees of this year’s Creative Gaming Award. Use the time until the Award Show on the evening of November 3rd to guess which one takes the prize. The Audience Award is chosen by the audience itself – and every game in the exhibition can be selected by you!
